Let's face it...families need vacations. Heck, some of the best movies have been made under this premise. We got word that one of our daughters activities got cancelled, so we took this as a sign to take a very last minute vacation...and Savannah was calling. Well...it took a couple of hours to decide on Savannah, but history plus the beach was enough for us to make the reservation.
We (the parents) had been to both Savannah and Tybee Island, but it had been quite a few years so we were all excited for the experience together. So we got up on a Monday, loaded the van, took the dog to the doggy hotel, and set off on our journey...only for it to stop 10 minutes down the road when a large, clunky, piece of metal came across the lane and under our van destroying our radiator and air conditioner. NOT the start that we wanted, but after a friend came to pick us up, a tow to the shop, and a visit to the rental place, we were in a new van and back on the road.
We arrived late that afternoon and settled in to our quaint 3rd floor apartment across from Forsyth Park.
We made some pizza then headed out for some ice cream at a pretty popular ice cream parlor...Leopolds! It was excellent and lived up to the hype. If you're ever in town, you should hit it up.
The next morning we were off to Tybee Island to spend some time in the sand and enjoy the rays. The beach isn't really my (Jarred) favorite place...I'd much rather visit parks and museums, but I'll do anything for my family. It was an absolutely fabulous day filled with laughter, family time, and sand in all my places.
Stay tuned for the second part of out trip to Savannah...it includes a baseball game in the middle of a pandemic!
