Haines, Alaska is a tiny town of approximately 1700 people. Depending on the tide, this port could be a tender port. We decided to do our own thing on this day and rent a car. We rented from Captains Choice Motel - there aren't many options in this town for rentals. We were told to call the rental company upon arrival to the city and someone would drive to the port to pick us up. When we called on arrival we were told ewe had to walk to the building. This was about a 15 minute walk. We were also told when we dropped off the car at the end of the day, they would drive us back to the ship - this didn't happen either. (just wanted to give my honest review)
Once we had the car, we drove down the street to The Rusty Compass coffee shop. I highly recommend stopping at this little place for breakfast. It's a small family run business and had great breakfast sandwiches.
We drove about 30 minutes outside town for a great little hike at the Chilkat State Park. We did the beginning part of the Seduction Point Trail. The views everywhere you look are amazing. Our hike was amazing - it was a little more than we anticipated, so we did cut it short a bit. **If hiking, make sure you keep up with the time, you don't want to risk being late to the ship.
After our hike, we did some more driving and just enjoyed the scenery. We ended up back in downtown area and had lunch at The Lighthouse restaurant The halibut sandwich was delicious!!!
